I woke up on Sunday morning pleasantly surprised to find I was ache free after the previous
days exertions. As Dylan’s vet time was not till 9/00 this gave us a relaxed start tot he day and allowed
for breakfast to be consumed for a change. After breakfast and settling up we drove to the venue where
I checked up on Dougal and Steve then took him for a walk while I sorted out Dylan’s paper work. When I got
back from this we popped Dougal away and took Dylan down for his pre ride vetting. While walking down to
the vetting area Milly's mother rang and I advised them were they could find us. Dylan duly passed his
vetting, we met up with Milly and Cassandra and then tacked up and hopped on ready to go. At this point
Dylan had a little brain fart and decided the rope was out to get him so spun round a couple of times before
settling and walking forward again to the start.
Milly and I walked the first section of the course as her usual rigind partner has left the venue a
minute or two ahead of uas and we did not want to catch her up. unfortunately Sundays weather was not as
nice as Saturdays. It rained the while time Milly and I were riding and at tiemw was quite heavy. This was
exascerbated by the low branches that we kept hitting along the way. but enough of the negative. To pass
the time of day milly and I exchanged jokes and word plays along the way. Not always with great sucsess as
I kind of forgot a bit about the age difference and a few of my jokes were a bit 80's centric. However I
was able to recomend that she ask her mum to let her watch ET. This then got me to thinking that I was old
enough to be her mother, a sobering thought if ever there was one.
In order to make sure we passed the vetting we took our time over vetting and 11 minutes
after crossing the line presented with a heart rate of 61/56 and passed, pleasingly our metabolic
readings were as good at the end as at the first vet gate. Dougal was washed off and rugged and
cool booted up then left to mooch round his coral with plenty of grass, hard feed, sugar beet water
and plain water to hand. Steve and I attended the prize giving, then went for a celebratory dinner
in the pub and a well earned sleep. The following morning on arriving at the venue to take Dougal
home we found him stomping round his coral as if to say and where have you been, bright eyed and
looking ready to go again.
Below are my heart rate monitor and GPS readings from this ride.
